Brief Biography

Dr. Masako Hamada was born and raised in Kofu, Japan. Kofu is in Yamanashi Prefecture, which is famous for Mt. Fuji and the five lakes which are next to it.

She was a founder of the Japanese Program at Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1989, and she has been a coordinator of the program ever since then. She has taught several courses, including Japanese Language, Japanese Culture and Civilization, Japanese for Business, Japanese Animation: cross-cultural communication, etc.

She has a B.A. Degree in American and English Literature from Shirayuri Women’s College in Tokyo, Japan, a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Communication from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor’s Degree in International & Transcultural Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University.
