I am interested in how ecosystems respond to, and may feed back to, global change. The most complex and uncertain questions regarding future ecosystems lie in the rhizosphere where plants interact intimately with the soil microbes to carry out the majority of terrestrial biogeochemical cycling. Tracking how global change factors alter important soil processes has been a common theme in my work.
